FILA and Walter’s Join Forces To Rerelease The FILA “OG” 96 – PREORDER 5/25/2016
(Atlanta, Georgia) – Back in 2013, FILA reintroduced the 96 silhouette back into the market place in its original colorway. The shoe has gained notoriety not just in the sneaker culture, as one of the best on-court styles, but also in Hip-Hop, appearing most notably in Tupac Shakur’s “All Eyez On Me” album insert. The silhouette has simply stood the test of time and become one of the most iconic signature shoes of all time. Next weekend FILA will revisit this classic with Atlanta based retailer Walters. When you think FILA, the 96 comes to mind. When you think Atlanta, Walter’s comes to mind. It’s easy to understand why year over year FILA thrives at the Decatur Street location. Since the 90’s Walter’s has provided consumers with a large assortment of FILA styles, both footwear and apparel. In a world where mom and pop shops are folding left and right, Walter’s continues to be a staple in the culture.
The “OG” 96 will feature details that mirror the original release from 1996. The tumbled leather upper is highlighted by a patent leather lining, which extends and connects through the midsole. An important factor that continues to be addressed and featured is the cushioning system, which provides maximum support through the thick rubber outsole. At first glance it’s easy to recognize the outsole which displays flex grooves and a herringbone traction pattern. Aside for the recognizable 96 logo on the upper, FILA branding also appears on the tongue and the back counter. The former features a plastic pull tag, while the latter features back Velcro strap. The lace-loop system assists in fitting atop a heavily padded mesh tongue
Jeff of Walter’s offers some insight why a rerelease of the FILA “OG” 96 was warranted. “FILA has always been at the forefront for us and the 96 is just a classic shoe. In today’s market there are trends living and dying quicker than anyone can keep up. The FILA 96 will always be a respected shoe no matter what trend is inline. What better time than Memorial Day weekend.”
